This is the flash game I have been working on for a little while.
Its an adventure game, with a bit of combat here and there.

People often forget, so here is some very important instructions:

*remember that walking (hold shift while running) gives you precise movement, you don't slide, and is good for getting into positions to jump onto ledges (up, plus you have to face the correct direction)

*You can climb down ledges too! (down when your above a ledge and facing the correct direction)

*When in combat you can do more attacks and faster by doing combos! practice at the tutorial level for combat to get good without dying.

Ah, sorry about the slow reply, this game is OLD NOW ahahaha, maybe I should make a new one sometime.

You may need to get into a correct position under the ledge using shift to walk. Jump from standing, without a run, and he will grab the ledge! then just hold up and he climbs up onto the ledge :)

i don't get what to do. i can't go anywhere. i made it over the falling floor thingy but where do i go? i can't just anywhere or anything.

Sorry for the delayed response, I have been at the beach. The game is like a puzzle. For the first level for example, you have to climb up to the raised block to trigger the gate to rise, then carefully climb back down without falling into that spike pit. Make sure you remember to walk using shift for precision, and press up to jump and grab a ledge...

i like the sliding when you run :) it's helpful in some parts

btw, if you go back to the previous area, you can restart your lives. :D i think.

the ending has a really cool sun, too! :XD:

Thats pretty awesome, but you might want to work on your animating a bit.

Also I found it a bit weird how he slid when he is standing on what im pretty sure is not ice.

But other than that, it is awesome!

did you forget walk as well?

the problem i had was, there is no point having a walk unless the running is not precise, and since the game was originally based on prince of persia, plus the fact that i wanted to include walking anyway, i made running very unprecise, which suits it because running is really only for crossing large distances, and if you think about it, it would take a little while to slow down from a sprint. This made walking better, which (i think) makes the game more interesting, strategic and fun.
thats what i thought anyway.

Hmm... its okay. Not your best, by far.

The attacking is very poor sorry Dré... the enemies need to be better than just slash slash slash makes it impossible for the player sometimes.

Also, it lacks a UI as usual, I think this is something you need to work on.


But I'm always the harsh critic... lol. It is a good game... I've gotta get good now :P

The drop down from the ledge thing is far too small of a margin... u pretty much have to be just before walking off to be able to do it, increasing the tolerance there would be nice :)

Also, that bit where there is the tiny as ledge that you run into from blindness, that's evil, as I'm sure everyone who plays it first time is going to slide right off.

What's with the death system... is it two deaths per section? some sort of UI/HUD to tell us these sort of things would be nice :)

That little ledge thing is ment to be like that, keeps you on edge =P, as for the tiny margin, i experimented with it bigger, but then there is a huge 'jump' sideways to get the stickman in the correct position, which didn't look good. It isn't that hard to do it the way it was, so i left it.

The death system IS a little weird, because otherwise the game was too hard. In the early levels you get 1 retry, then in latter levels you get 2, and for the last you get 3.
I didn't think it was important to tell you guys that...but now you know.

Lol... I'm just critiquing so you get better. I'm not doing it to make you feel bad. If you didn't get suggestions from people then you might not get better.

I think you need some sort of indication on lives, yes that means a user interface or at least just a HUD.... with lives display.

the ledge thing wouldn't be as bad if you didn't have to be facing backwards, because I takes me ages to be able to get into the right position because my character refresh rate on my keyboard is fast (as in it repeats the key press more often) so I go too far even with a tab. And just make it so there's an animation of him turning around if you're the wrong way around.

Btw, nice double post... lol

Nice, but the controls are frustrating. The sliding should only kick in if your player gets to top speed, not just for anything, and the jumps should happen instantly without needing to bend over. Finally, a little more control in the air would be great (and a mere 2 floor fall to death is a little harsh, an extra floor maybe?) :)

hmmm....the sliding was ment to make the game harder, which i think it did, and I personally can't see how it gets frustrating as you can just walk instead, but if everyone gets annoyed at it, i suppose i can change it.
Im quite happy with the lack of control in the air, and the 2 floor fall is there to make the game require a little more effort, and allows me more options in level design.

But back to the frustrating controls, how would you suggest i improve them (i hope you knew about walking, a number of people seem to forget!)

Well, a second of running before running jumps or sliding are activated would be helpful so we can position ourselves better without holding shift, and jumps should be instant to give a bit more of a direct feel to the controls. The falls and no control in the air I suppose are your choice, they aren't too hard to adapt to, just most game makers ignore reality and put these in anyway to make their game more like everything else out there, which makes it simpler to get into on the first play. That's my :twocents:

I agree, I don't think you should slide so easily... infact, sliding at all is kinda annoying, I know it makes it harder, but mehhh... I think it'd be better if you didn't at all. It just gets annoying even with the walking shift thing.

This is cool. If you really dress it up, it would be a nice Prince of Persia clone thing. Better character animations would be really cool. :)

realy awsome ^_^ i bit hard but it was great ^_^ amazing job! but there were a few bugs like somtimes i would die fer no reason and nothing was there also the fighting was that great but over all i would give it a 8/10 ^_^ good job!

Its good but I got really frustrated with the controls so i Gave up. Its annoying how far 1 step moves you, making it kind of difficult to line up to grab platforms.

were you walking?? i specifically made running move you far and make you slide as it is a different thing to walking. Walking was ment for precise platform grabing sort of movement.
If you WERE walking and found the controls hard, well thats a little sad :(
They seemed pretty good to me, but then again, I made it ;)
